About

I'm a preschool teacher in Chicago, Illinois, currently teaching at a non-profit organization that serves Chinese immigrants. My class is funded by Head Start and the state Preschool For All program. I am originally from Los Angeles, where I taught at a progressive cooperative preschool- so I was trained in child-centered, Reggio Emilia-inspired philosophies. It has been quite an adjustment for me to find myself leading a classroom in a place where I don't speak the language and sometimes have difficulties understanding or accepting certain cultural (Chinese, Midwestern, Head Start, or otherwise) norms. This blog might delve into the complexities of that stuff at times as I continue to work on bringing more of a progressive slant to this program and this curriculum, but mostly I hope it will be a fun way to document our days and to connect with other early childhood teachers who are out there in the universe fighting the good fight for young children.
